STAFF REPORTER SPECIAL web cams have been set up on a selection of Majorcan beaches so that tourists across the world can click on line and see that everything is completely “normal” on the island following the recent attacks by Basque terrorist group ETA and that tourist services are operating as usual.

The cameras have been set up by technicians working for the Institute for Tourism (Inestur) which reports to the regional Ministry for Tourism.
The beaches chosen to set up the installations, which include a small computer and a link to connect it to the internet, are at Cala d'Or, Cala Millor, Playa de Palma, Palmanova-Magalluf and the Port of Alcudia.

The equipment has been set up on the flat terrace roofs on top of hotels to provide the best birds-eye views of the beaches. Work on installation began last Monday and was completed on Thursday after technical hitches were finally solved.

Next week, the cameras will become operative following an official presentation to be organised by the ministry for Tourism.
