Palma.—The life of a 21-year-old British holiday maker was saved by a thick hedge after he fell from a second floor balcony in the early hours of yesterday morning, according to the emergency services.

The young man, who was apparently extremely drunk, climbed on the balcony rails just after 3am.
However, according to the results of the initial investigation, he lost his balance and fell in to the hotel car park.
Fortunately, just below his balcony in the Hotel Cala Blanca, was a thick hedge and this, according to the medical sources, saved his life.
Three Samu-061 ambulances were quickly on the scene and the young man was rushed to Son Espases Hospital suffering from multiple injuries but none of them were life threatening.

Calvia Local Police sources said that the young man was extremely lucky to have avoided landing on the concrete floor of the car park.
The Local Police and the Guardia Civil have opened a full investigation to try and establish exactly what happened.
The Foreign Commonwealth Office and the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) this Summer relaunched their awareness campaign which was first rolled out last year to try and alert young holiday makers of the dangers and consequences of alcohol and drug abuse while on holiday, but the balcony incidents continue to occur.
