THE powerful Balearic environmental group GOB yesterday slammed the favourable report by the Balearic Government to build another new golf course.
The green light to the new golf course, as well as the expansion of two other existing courses, as was reported in yesterday's Bulletin, will have a negative effect on more than 130 hectares of countryside, complained GOB. The environmental group is criticising the decision to make a favourable report on the construction of a new golf course in Son Bosch (in Muro) and to expand two courses, one in Son Muntaner in Palma and the other in Costa des Pins in Son Servera. Currently, there are eighteen operative golf courses in Majorca and a further three under construction, added the environmental group.
Furthermore, the government has also started the proceedings for approving a further 14 golf courses, most of which will be accompanied by tourist complexes and residential houses, GOB claimed. GOB also expressed its concern at the amount of water used by the golf courses.
