Bars blame Health ministry over plastic cup fiasco

BAR proprietors in the area of the Torre park in Felanitx where open-air concerts and fiestas are being held to mark celebrations for the Feast of Sant Agustí, are blaming the local council - and the Balearic Health ministry - over losses they are incurring through not being able to reuse plastic cups .

The fiestas, or verbenas as they are known locally are running this year from 21st to 29th August and every night there is entertainment in the park by visiting musicians, either groups or solo artists.

The occasion is very well attended by local people and merry-making and enjoyment of the music continues to the early hours of the morning.
This year, however, the Balearic Health ministry under the leadership of Vicenç Thomas, sent strict instructions to the local council in Felanitx that plastic cups which are specially manufactured with the logo of San Agustí and used for drinks in bars and on terraces in place of glass ones, need to undergo a rigorous cleaning process before they can be re-used.
