STAFF REPORTER SALES of red tuna on Majorca have fallen by up to a quarter because of the economic crisis, said wholesalers “Isla Mar Este” yesterday in Palma. Some fish stall holders at the city's Olivar market confirmed that they are experiencing even higher downturn in sales of between 30 and 40 percent. The price of red tuna varies between 26 and 32 euros per kilo according to the amounts that are captured and the demand for it. The Balearics is one of the last fishing grounds where red tuna is conserved. Many wildlife protection organisations are calling for a sanctuary to be created in the waters off the Islands.
