PALMA
THE Yacht Charter industry in the Balearics appears to have weathered the storm of the recession as business this year has been more successful than it was in 2008, said the Spanish Yacht Charter Federation (FENAN) yesterday.

Its President, Cristina Sastre claimed that although the tourist season this year had “begun badly,” the industry was having “a really good run.” She confirmed that during August more than 90 percent of the yacht charter fleet had been hired out
Nautical tourism, which is popular in the Balearics between May and October, has been gathering momentum following a shaky start, and after a “good” June and July, the number of people wanting to charter boats in August has risen even further. Sastre said that even September and October look set to be better than last year.
