Palma.— Around ten officers from “Ibanat” are continuing to fight the fire in Calvia - now under control - which has been raging since Thursday.
Officers are being assisted by an Environment ministry technician and an Emergency Services vehicle in fire extinction work.
Giving high tech assistance to the efforts of “Ibanat” yesterday was a special observation aircraft which was flying round the circumference of the affected area of 32 hectares, taking infrared pictures to show where the most dangerously hot areas are still located.

Because there are still isolated patches which are prone to flaring up again, officers are anxious to give these “hot points” a regular dousing to keep them under control.

It was not possible to declare the fire completely extinguished yesterday because of the unfavourable winds which fanned occasional outbreaks.
Work on containing the fire has been continuing night and day since its outbreak, with the spectacular aid of fire fighting aircraft and water-carrying helicopters. The efforts of all those involved in tackling the blaze has been widely- praised by residents in Calvia.
