AS many as 24 Britons are being held by police after Friday's major operation against drug traffickers in Ibiza the Bulletin reported on over the weekend.

Officers from the Guardia Civil anti-drugs squad force targeted organised British gangs who were operating from houses in the holiday resort of San Antonio, on the island's west coast.

They seized cocaine, ecstasy pills and other drugs.
A spokesman for the Spanish Guardia Civil said: “This operation is still going on and we cannot give any details at this stage.
He added: “A pile of Britons have been detained.”

CLUBBING DESTINATION
In response to the arrests a Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are aware of a number of arrests in Ibiza involving British nationals. “We are offering consular assistance.” Millions of tourists flood into Ibiza every year attracted by the island's reputation as one of the best clubbing destinations in the world.
The British gangs are believed to travel to the island for the summer selling designer drugs to young revellers.
In similar raids in Ibiza last September Spanish police arrested 25 Britons in gangs from Manchester and Liverpool. The incident will come as a blow to San Antonio which has been trying to clean up its image.
