Palma.—Guardia Civil officers have arrested 73 people for reportedly trading drugs in various nightclubs in Ibiza – including a new ‘designer drug' which is thought to have led to the death of a young British girl.

Two dealing rackets, made up of British, Irish and Italian nationals, have been busted and their members remanded in custody.
A total of 30 properties were raided, leading to the confiscation of over eight-and-a-half kilos of cocaine, 7'500 ecstasy tablets, more than a kilo of speed, two kilos of hash, eleven kilos and 3'600 pills of pure MDMA – also known as ‘crystal' and one of the main active ingredients in ecstasy and speed – and 600 doses of ketamine, together with jewellery and more than 180'000 euros in cash.

One of the rackets was in regular contact with other gangs in the UK who supplied drugs when those based on the island ran out.
A man travelling to the UK from Ibiza with over a kilo of MDMA in his luggage was detained at departures on July 22, and is thought to be part of the same organisation.

This spectacular drug-bust involved the help of the Guardia Civil in Valencia, Ibiza and Zaragoza, and the UK's Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA).
One of the designer drugs found – which is said to be prolific on the island – is known as ‘Pink Rock Star', and was allegedly taken by 20-year-old Jodie, from Croydon, who died en route to hospital accompanied by two friends after collapsing in a nightclub.
