The 150,000 euros the 64-year-old Volker Rainer was killed for at his Sa Coma home last Friday was not hidden in the house but had been deposited in the Bank.
Sources close to the investigation revealed yesterday that one of the lines they are following is that someone who used to work for the victim who recently sold the restaurant he ran with his wife to retire was involved with the robbery.
Two men broke into the Rainer’s property last Friday morning and tied both Volker and his wife up before torturing and beating them and ransacking the house in search of the money.
It is not clear if they got away with any cash but they did kill Volker who was found bound and gagged at 11pm that night after his wife, who remains in hospital after being bound and beaten as well , was able to raise the alarm.
