Palma.—With less than a month to go until the annual Abta (Association of British Travel Agents) convention kicks off in Palma, the British travel industry appears to be getting very excited about what is looking to be packed few days of business and pleasure here in Majorca.

An estimated 1'000 members of the travel industry from journalists to travel agents are going to come to Palma to mark the end of what has been a tough but relatively successful summer season for the industry.

In fact, so much is going on in Palma that a brochure listing a full schedule of social and sporting events has been sent out to all convention delegates . Leading the way are two events hosted by the Spanish National Tourist Office, an opening ceremony in a historic 17th century mansion and a Come Fly With Me Host Party themed around the 50s music, glamour and sophistication of Frank Sinatra.

After the Host Party delegates will be able to continue to dance the night away or have a quiet drink, at the glamorous El Divino night club which has spectacular views over the bay of Palma and will be available exclusively to delegates. Delegates wanting to burn off calories can take part in a 3.5km fun run or Golf Tournament as well as doing their bit for two charities, Abta LifeLine and the Family Holiday Association.

Mark Tanzer Abta Chief Executive said: “Networking and socialising are essential ingredients in a successful Travel Convention mix.
Unforgettable “With the amazing hospitality on offer from our hosts, Palma 2011 will be an unforgettable few days. Delegates can also keep down the pounds and do their bit for charity by taking part in the Fun Run or Golf Tournament.” Other events open to all delegates include: ship visits with cocktails, to Royal Caribbean International's Grandeur of the Seas; the Convention Supper Club at the Ca n'Eduardo restaurant for a reasonably priced three course meal; and the Cosmos 50th Anniversary celebration Party at Tito's nightclub.
