THE traffic jams seen almost daily during peak hours at the junction of the ring road (Via Cintura) with the airport motorway, are in the process of being solved with work to improve this junction being carried out by the Council of Majorca.
For several weeks now, this difficult access point has been the object of works to widen the access road from the Via Cintura to the airport motorway, in the direction of Andratx, from one to two lanes.
The machines are working flat out in one of the parts of the access road where the road is being widened to two lanes. The project plans the improvement of a few links and, although this one will be widened, the access road from the Paseo Maritimo to the Via Cintura will be changed from two lanes to one. Gonzalo Aguiar, director of the Council of Majorca's Roads Department, explained that, in this case, the traffic is not so heavy. The Council of Majorca is also planning to improve the connection between the Via Cintura and the Manacor road, as well as the access to Ikea. Traffic has been diverted and, while the work is in progress, it will not be possible to get onto the Via Cintura from the store.
