STAFF REPORTER THE Homicide Squad of the National Police in Palma is investigating what appears to be a suicide pact after the bodies of a man and his partner were found just one kilometre apart in Son Rapinya.

The body of a 40-year-old man was discovered several days ago close to a fast food centre by the school roundabout in Son Rapinya. The forensic department believed that he had died from a drugs overdose.

At first, the National Police thought that it was an isolated case of suicide but investigators then learned that the man's partner, a 44-year-old woman from Valencia had gone missing and had left a note indicating that both she and her boyfriend was intending to kill themselves. A special Rapid Response Unit was brought in and exhaustive searches were made in the area of Son Rapinya where the first body had been discovered.

DEAD FOR 3 OR 4 DAYS
The body of the woman was finally found last weekend on open ground on the edge of Son Rapinya in the direction of the Son Muntaner golf course and Son Xigala. The woman's identification card was found amongst her clothing.

There were two hypodermic needles lying by the victim but there is as yet no evidence that they were connected with her death.
The forensic department believes that she died from having taken pills of some sort but the woman had been dead for three or four days and the body was decomposing. The date at which her death was fixed coincides with the death of her partner whose body was found just a kilometre away.

The Homicide Squad is opening a special investigation to clarify the circumstances of the death of both people and as to whether or not there had indeed been a suicide pact between them.
