PALMA
THE President of the Balearics, Francesc Antich, yesterday dedicated a large part of his state of the Balearics address to Parliament to thanking the international community for standing by the region and supporting Majorca through the wave of ETA terrorist attacks the island suffered last month claiming the lives of two members of the Guardia Civil and causing widespread chaos.

Antich used the opportunity to pay tribute to tour operators, consuls and the foreign community for the solidarity shown to the Balearics the authorities and the security services here in Majorca and overseas.

The President said that while Parliament resumes after a “complicated and painful summer recess because a group of killers came here to reveal just how pathetic, useless and ineffective they are. “The killers will end up in prison while the daily life and economic activity on the island continues as usual as has done ever since the bombings. “And all this was possible thanks to the strong and united reaction from the Balearic community as a whole and our neighbours and visitors,” he added.
Antich said that the same united front is going to be needed to recover from the recession.
