NEWSDESK NEXT month, two apparently illegal beach bars in Portals Vells and the Port of Alcudia are going to be taken down, the Director of Coastal Protection Celesti Alomar announced yesterday.

According to Alomar, there are only three beach bars in Majorca which do not have the necessary permits and licences in accordance with recent changes in Spain's coastal laws and they are going to be either knocked down or dismantled - as is the case in the Port of Alcudia where the owner of the beach club has reached a deal with the coastal department to take care of the operation.

There are a total of 208 beach bars in the Balearics. 107 are literally located on the beach while the remaining 101 are off the sand.
Alomar said yesterday that the majority of beach bar owners are aware of the rules and regulations and have fully complied with the recent changes in the coastal and environmental laws.
