The President of the Balearics, Jose Ramon Bauza, marked World Tourism Day yesterday by urging the public and private sector to work closer together.

Palma.—With the jury out over whether this summer was one on the best on record or not, Bauza chose to look to the future yesterday calling on the local tourist industry to be responsible and to make sure that the quality life for residents is not sacrificed for the benefit of tourism.

"The public and private sectors need to be working closer together to guarantee that the Balearics continues to be profitable as a tourist destination in the future but without making residents pay the price."
