SPANISH Television will tonight be showing a special documentary about the life of the late poet Robert Graves in Deya.
The documentary is part of the Baleares, un viaje en el tiempo (Balearics, a Journey Through Time) series on TV2 at 9.45pm and concentrates on Graves's life from 1929, when he first came to Majorca until 1936, when he was forced to leave Spain during the Spanish Civil War. This period in his life also featured his stormy relationship with Laura Riding.
Graves later returned to the island with his wife and children and lived in Deya until his death in 1985.
He is buried in the cemetery near the church in the village.
Apart from the island's magic, climate and cheap cost of living, Robert Graves always considered it important that Majorca was very close to the Greenwich meridian line.
