THE traditional September Fair in Alcudia has opened its doors this year to an area specifically created for wine lovers in the Can Torró and Can Fondo patio. In this charming corner of Alcudia visitors can sample some of best wines from the new vineyards in the Balearic Islands, one of them located in Alcudia, the Can Fumat vineyard. Visitors pay one euro in exchange for a wine glass, which is used to taste the different wines that are on exhibition on the many stands.
Some of these wines are new this year, such as the sa Vall wines from the Miquel Gelabert vineyard in Manacor, which have created a private selection of white wines. This same vineyard is also presenting a Pinot Noir rosé wine, which has a full flavour and is very different from any more common wines.
The municipal authorities, headed by the Mayor of Alcudia, Miquel Ferrer, also joined in with the wine tasting yesterday and officially opened the exhibition. There are no doubts that the hundreds of visitors which came to the Alcudia Fair yesterday, will surely double or triple today.
In addition to the wine offerings, there will also be a whole host of other events taking place in Alcudia today. See the What's On In the Balearics page for more information.
