PALMA
THE president of the Council of Majorca, Francina Armengol, yesterday presented a draft scheme for road developments around the city which would facilitate traffic access. The project could, in theory, replace plans for a second Palma ringroad and would cut into a third less territory.

The crux of the new project is that the connection roads would be complementary to the ringroad that is already in existence and would run parallel to Cami dels Reis without the need to pass through Sa Garriga and Son Sardina where residents had been up in arms about the second ringroad. Armengol was accompanied at the alternative route presentation yesterday by Public Works councillor, Antoni Pascual and Highways director, Gonzalo Aguiar. Pascual said that most areas of the draft plans have “already been agreed upon.” All that is awaited, he said, is the results of Environmental studies.
