NEWSDESK JUST after midday yesterday, a lorry shed its load of crates of bottles of beer while taking the Son Ferriol roundabout along the Palma to Sineu road. Emergency services were quick to respond to the alarm and, according to various eyewitnesses, the lorry loaded with lager, apparently took the roundabout too fast.

An investigation has been mounted into why the pallets were not properly secured inside the trailer and half of the load fell onto the roundabout while the rest crashed on to the road.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt as a result of the incident and the Local Police and Guardia Civil highway patrol cordoned off the area quickly to protect passing traffic from the hundreds of bottles of beer strewn across the roundabout.

One of the two carriages was closed to traffic while the broken bottles and crates were removed and the road surface cleaned.
It took a team of Council of Majorca engineers and road cleaners over half an hour to remove all the debris from the road and the central reservation but the closure of one of the two carriages caused significant traffic jams in both directions.
