PALMA council have approved a move to contract a transport service for disabled people.
Conditions for the service have now been approved and will be put out to tender.
The initial contract will be for a period of three years, in principal from January 1 2007, with a maximum budget of 1.6 million. The service will be run by the Social Services department, directed by the councillor Margalida Ferrando. This programme, which will be preferably covered by microbuses and taxis, will have fixed daily transport routes between the homes and destinations of the disabled people, as well as making journeys asked for by groups, and with a special personalised service using taxis. The people using this service should have a disabled certificate and a medical report for serious mobility problems, as well as preferably being over 16 years old, and have difficulty in being accompanied by their parents or teachers, and need to be accompanied by a third person, and live in Palma.
