PALMA
DESPITE the Balearic Tourism Ministry's budget for 2010 having been cut by 5.3 percent in comparison with funds made available to it this year, it will be spending 11 percent more on tourism promotion, said regional Minister Miquel Nadal yesterday.

Speaking at a Parliamentary Committee meeting on Economy and Tax affairs, Nadal confirmed that whilst 27 million had been spent on promotion this year, the figure would go up to 30 million prior to the onset of the 2010 holiday season. Nadal insisted though, that the quantity was “insufficient,” particularly when compared with departmental budgets in Andalucia and the Canary Islands where spending on tourism promotion is six and four times as that allocated to the Balearics, respectively.
