PALMA
THE Balearic government will next week pay tribute to all the Olympic medal-winning members of Team GB who used Majorca as a training base for the Beijing Games.

In recognition of Team GB's achievements and the role Majorca played in the preparations for the games, the government has invited Britain's gold medal winning cyclist Rebecca Romero, whose father is Majorcan and who lived on the island for three years when a child, to a special tribute event at the World Travel Market on Wednesday, Balearic Day.

Team GB's cyclists have been using Majorca as a training base for many years and the likes of Hoy and Bradley have been competing in the Tour of Majorca for many years, but also this year double gold-winner Rebecca Adlington and the women's elite swimming team used Palma's Son Hugo pool complex for their final team training camp while Britain's medal winning sailors, in particular Ben Ainslie, also use Majorca as a key part of their annual training programmes.
