PALMA
THE Council of Majorca is going to increase its investment in public works next year by 141 percent in an attempt to help combat the recession gripping the island.

The Council of Majorca, led by Francinca Armengol, unveiled its budget for the coming year yesterday and, apart from the major increase in investment in public works, the council will also plan to increase investment in social projects and policies by 25 percent.

In total, over half of the council's total budget of 363 million euros, 14 percent more than for this year, is going to be spent on tackling the economic crisis in Majorca head-on.
