THE regional Interior Ministry announced yesterday that next year, people living on the Islands will be able to be “guaranteed better information” on emergency measures to be taken in the event of inclement weather with the setting up of the Balearics' own Meteorological Office. The announcement came yesterday from Minister Maria Angeles Leciñera who was presenting her budget for the coming year. She said that the Emergency department, part of the Interior Ministry, has been allocated nearly 7.5 million euros to establish appropriate emergency measures and provide manpower and equipment to cope with extreme situations such as those caused by gale force storms. A regional Met Office is a key feature of early warning systems.
