Palma.—An estimated 90 public and private social care associations which look after the disabled and those facing social exclusion yesterday demonstrated outside the Balearic parliament over the fact they are owed 24 million euros by local authorities.

The 90 care service bodies provide attention to around 60'000 people across the Balearics and over 200 people gathered in Palma to warn that, unless public funds are made available, those most at threat in society will face an even harsher future because many of the associations will be unable to continue looking after them. “The situation is critical,” said one spokesperson.
