THE new Mental Health Centre (USM) located in the Red Cross hospital has now been up and working for one month and it is estimated that by next year the centre will deal with 20 percent more consultations than this year. This was explained by Aina Castillo, the Minister for Health and Consumer Affairs, who was paying a visit to the new centre yesterday.
She was accompanied by the co-ordinator for Mental Health in the Balearic Islands, Miguel Echevarria, and the Managing Director of Emergency Attention in Majorca, Albert Anguera. The estimates are that the centre will deal with 12'000 consultations this year, and of these 2'500 will be new patients.
There are eight such Mental Health centres on the islands, 6 in Majorca, 1 in Ibiza and 1 in Minorca.
