THE General Workers' Union (UGT) yesterday accused the Balearic government of “going back on its word” and postponing already-agreed pay awards until 2011.

The Public Services Federation of the UGT explained that salary increases had been agreed for this year in negotiations with the government for health workers and teachers. “Now that the Balearic authorities have said they are going to postpone the increases for another two years, we are going to use every legal means at our disposal of making them live up to their word,” said a Federation spokesman.
