MAJORCA yesterday presented a navigation system for cycling excursions on the island at the World Travel Market currently being held in London.
The General Positioning System (GPS) covers 58 cycle routes across Majorca stretching for a total of 4'625 kilometres (2'875 miles).
The system was presented to the British Press and specialist holiday sector organisations at the headquarters of National Geographic Society in London. Unveiling the new GPS yesterday was the President of the Council of Majorca, Francina Armengol, Economy and Tourism Director, Isabel Oliver and Majorcan Tourism Foundation Director, Mar Suau.

According to the Majorcan Tourism Foundation, the cycle tour GPS can be found on the tourist information page of the Council of Majorca (www.infomallorca.net) and enables site visitors to download the routes in a printable “PDF” format. The facility allows excursion pre-planning and detailed “in situ” research.

The user will be able to see the level of difficulty of each cycling excursion route, the geographical relief of the terrain to be covered, the services available en route (restaurants, hotels, health centres), the distances between towns and villages, and tourist information about scenic spots and sites of particular cultural or heritage interest.
