MORE than 65'000 people suffer from diabetes in the Balearics, it was revealed yesterday.
The number of sufferers accounts for 6.5 percent of the Balearic population and regional officials have started a campaign to raise awareness of the condition.
An information display has been set up in Palma's Porta Pintada to coincide with yesterday's World Health Organisation World Diabetes Day so people can discover more about the disease.
Over 250 million people worldwide suffer from the condition and the WHO event has been running for 15 years in a bid to draw attention to the global epidemic and the need for action to improve care, prevent the disease in those at risk and find a cure.
The theme of this year's event is Diabetes and Adolescents.
