THE Balearic government snatched the opportunity yesterday to show British Tour Operator “My Travel” and 700 of its agents, just what Majorca had in store island-wide for the coming season at its newly upgraded hotels and apartments. Tourist promotion director, Eduardo Gamero, took part yesterday morning in the opening of the annual convention of My Travel holiday agencies held in Calvia, the individual UK high street outlets of which are called “Going Places”. Gamero explained that the holding of the convention on Majorca was of particular significance for the 2007 tourist season, as the Island is the holiday destination to which My Travel gives the highest profile in its brochures. The event is sponsored by the regional ministry for Tourism through “Ibatour” - the Balearic Institute for Tourism, in conjunction with the Council of Majorca, the Chamber of Commerce, Calvia Town Council and Optursa Hotel group. Special excursions were organised for the British travel agency representatives so that they can get to know at first hand what the latest offers are in accommodation around the Island. Gamero said that senior staff in My Travel tour operations had passed on their thanks to the entire Balearic tourist operational force for their willingness and kind co-operation in enabling the tour operator to see a major slice of just what is on offer for key client customers during the coming season. According to the Tourist Promotion director, the UK tour operator had been most impressed with the quality/price ratio of available facilities.
