Motorbike rider gravely injured

A 38-year-old Spaniard, Ricardo Javier P.H. was in a critical condition in hospital in Palma yesterday after the motorbike he was riding crashed in the suburb of s'Indioteria late on Sunday night, firstly into a roadside wall and then into a lamppost.

A passing motorist alerted the emergency services. Police said the rider was not carrying his licence or insurance papers on him but they were able to track down his ex wife to whom were handed any personal effects.

Because of the seriousness of the victim's injuries, no tests for alcohol consumption were carried out at the scene of the crash.
