PALMA
THE disgraced ex-mayor of Llucmajor, Lluc Tomas, officially resigned his post yesterday and quit the Partido Popular but denied that he was guilty, as charged, of having misappropriated public funds.

On Monday, Tomas was sentenced to three years in jail and banned from holding public office for a further eight after he was found guilt at the Palma High Court along with a former Lluchmajor councillor and his secretary. However, Tomas - who would have been expelled from the conservative Partido Popular party had he not resigned - yesterday denied having ever stolen money from the town hall and claimed that, had he been aware of any such wrong doing, he would have reported it.
