THE Minister for Industry, Trade and Energy, Josep Cardona, yesterday defended the promotion of Balearic products in China, as the products are sold for between 30 and 40 percent more than the sale price in Spain. The annual growth in China is around 9 percent, said Josep Cardona, and there are a lot of middle to high wage earners in China who want to buy good quality western products. However, the deputy of the Socialist group, Patricia Abascal, questioned the benefits of this promotional campaign, saying that it would be best to concentrate efforts on “more manageable” markets. China has a good capacity to imitate products and “could reproduce our products and sell them at a cheaper price”, she warned.
