SOME 400 children took part yesterday in activities at Palma's Misericordia Cultural Centre to mark International Children's Rights Day.

Organised by Unicef and Majorcan “learning through recreation” association, Grups d'Esplai, games and workshops encouraged children to recognise that along with the adult population, they too have legal rights. Supported by the Iberostar Foundation and the Social Works Foundation of banking group Sa Nostra, the event was opened by local swimming star Xavi Torres. The activities gave participants a glimpse into the live of children in other parts of the world. Unicef delegate, Maria Antonia Caimari said that the Children's Right Convention, introduced some 20 years ago has made a real difference to the protection of infancy.
