BALEARIC conssrvation GOB will be mounting a campaign against disposable plastic bags in shops and supermarkets in Esporles and Santa Maria this weekend.

The move by the ecologists, who have christened their local crusade “Not a bit, not a scrap” is part of a wider campaign by the Council of Majorca's waste management programme to limit rubbish generation on the island. GOB explained yesterday that their activities will be aimed at persuading people to give up the use of throwaway plastic bags in favour of reusable bags made out of recycled material or natural fabric. They will be handing out 200 examples of the eco-friendly bags to shoppers. GOB will be supported by street theatre group “Familia Carmanyola” who will be staging some entertaining examples of how to purchase goods whilst respecting the environment.
