Gestion Hospitalaria Balear, which administers Alcudia hospital have announced that the centre will close on December 31 of this year.
The company, which belongs to the Clinica Juaneda Group, explained that they will try to relocate around 90 percent of the hospital's staff to Muro hospital. Also, they announced plans to open a new centre in Alcudia which will handle out-patients, according to the director of the hospital, Antoni Mesquida.

With regards to the contract signed between Gestion Hospitalaria Balear and Alcudia council, who own the building, and which stipulates that the hospital should continue providing medical services during the next 18 months, the company said that it would pay compensation to the council. The Major of Alcudia, Miquel Ferrer, visited the building together with the director general of Social Services, Joan Manuel Rosa, and announced that they hope to turn the hospital into a residential home for the elderly.

TALKS “We have started talks, both with the Balearic Government and the Council of Majorca, to be able to manage the 40 residence places which form part of the main hospital building. In addition and once the hospital closes there will be space to locate a day centre there with capacity for 30 people. This will mean that we will be able to transfer the Puerto Alcudia Pensioners home to this building,” he said. News that Alcudia hospital is to close has been met with dismay by local residents.
