MAJORCAN fire services and Local Police in Manacor had to rescue a total of six people who had become trapped in their cars in the early hours of yesterday morning when the Conies water course (torrent) burst its banks following all-night intense rainfall.

Emergency sources confirmed that they received a call for help just after midnight yesterday, which claimed that four people in two vehicles had become trapped on the Brandils road which links Manacor with Colonia de San Pedro in the district of Arta. After the successful rescue of the four victims, firemen received a further call at 1.45am saying that two other people in a single vehicle had become trapped on the same road despite the fact it had been shut off to traffic when the water course burst its banks. The callers were rescued without further incident.

Local Police in Manacor said yesterday afternoon that now, only a five-kilometre stretch of the Brandils road still remains cut off to traffic. Other roads are operating as usual.
