PALMA
THE Council of Majorca's Director of Environment, Guillem Riera, and the Mayor of Fornalutx, Joan Alberti, yesterday assisted in putting the restored Can Xoroi olive press back into operation.

The antique olive press was restored as part of the Council of Majorca's rural environmental restoration programme and the project was completed in July.

Yesterday, as part of the Port of Soller's Gerret (whitebait) Fair, the press was returned to action as it pressed 200 kilos of olives which had mostly come from local residents.

20 LITRES
But 40 kilos were collected by the Council of Majorca's Forestry Department from the Tossals Verds estate last weekend. The press is expected to 20 litres of olive oil, Aina Serrano, the Director of the environmental restoration programme said.

This weekend, a host of other activities are being organised as part of the festivities in the Port of Soller.
