STAFF REPORTER PALMA City Council is organising a whole host of activities for the Christmas and New Year in an attempt to bring some festive cheer to the cirecession-hit city.

Citizen Participation Councillor, Eberhard Grosske presented the “Christmas 2009” cultural and street merrymaking agenda at City Hall yesterday.
Activities will begin tomorrow when the Christmas lights are switched on in Plaza Cort and will conclude with the Three Kings parade.
Traditional Christmas craft and gift markets are already being held in Plaza Espanya and Plaza Mayor and there will be a children's train running through the main shopping areas of the city centre.

Tourism and Commerce Councillor, Joana M. Borras said that a “Christmas Wish” tree will be set up in Plaça de sa Llotja where local children will be able to leave letters asking for what they would like to receive as presents.

She added that with a packed activity programme of exhibitions, theatre, music and cinema, people are going to be “a little less bored” than they might claim they are at other times of the year.
