Palma de Majorca.The Council of Majorca has ordered the owners of the emblematic sa Garriguera and den Gelos windmills in Es Jonquet to take action to prevent the buildings' further deterioration.
The two windmills which loom over the Paseo Maritimo have been abandoned for years but now that the area of Es Jonquet was declared an Area of Cultural Interest last year, the owners of the windmills have an obligation to look after the buildings.
The Council of Majorca has warned the proprietors that should they choose to ignore the order, then they will be fined.
The Council of Majorca wants to eventually see the windmills restored because they are continuing to be a blot on Palma's seafront landscape.
