Palma Mayor Mateo Isern yesterday assured local citizens he “will do everything in his power” to avoid the general strike by Emaya’s workers.

Palma.—Street cleaners from the municipal company are threatening to go on indefinite strike from 26 December  following disagreements with the company’s management, regarding the loss of hours and change of shifts. This could leave Palma in an emergency state, similar to what happen in Madrid a few weeks ago, but Isern trusts  a deal can be made with Emaya’s works committee.  Showing his belief the workers he is confident they  “will not allow a city like Palma to go through the festive season without waste collection.
