PALMA
THE fourth snow of the Autumn yesterday dumped a heavy amount of snow on Majorca's mountains closing the road between Pollensa and Andratx at the Ses Barques lookout and forcing drivers in other parts of the Tramuntana to wrap their tyres in snow chains to negotiate the plaques of black ice caused over night by the freezing temperatures.

Yesterday morning, the Guardia Civil called out gritters to clear the ice off the roads in the area around Cuber Dam.
Council of Majorca road engineers had worked through the cold night to keep as many roads as possible open as between three and four millimetres of snow fell as low down as 500 metres and tons of salt was laid down in an attempt to beat the ice.
