PALMA
BIBIANA Aido, central government Minister for Equality, said yesterday in Palma that the Balearics are doing noticeably well in terms of developing policies which provide equal opportunities for all residents in the region, regardless of sex or nationality.

Aido said that although an official ranking system has not yet been established in Madrid to register progress across the country in matters of equality, “efforts are being made to create one.” The minister was speaking yesterday at a reception given for her at government offices in Palma to mark the occasion of her first official visit to the Islands. Aido is in the capital to open a business fair entitled “Women in Management” which promotes women at director level and is designed to encourage their taking a greater role in decision-making in commerce and industry.
