STAFF REPORTER PALMA'S Mayor, Aina Calvo officially opened the rebuilt urban area of Blanquerna yesterday which runs between Avenida del Comte de Sallent as far as Plaza Paris.

In a ceremony which included switching on of Christmas lights, the Mayor said she hoped that the pedestrian-friendly landscaping which has transformed the face of Blanquerna will lead the way in presenting the city of Palma as a safer and more comfortable environment in which to live. She said the project, which has been completed at a cost of 7.2 million euros will “galvanise business” and act as a connecting bridge between the centre of the city and its residential areas. Residents want the area completely shut off to traffic.
