LOCAL police have arrested four people in Manacor, three of them minors, on suspicion of belonging to a Latin gang which has been robbing and threatening other under-age youngsters.

The only adult amongst the detainees, C.F.V.M., is under investigation for having created a youth gang comprising minors from Ecuador and Colombia. The members are recruited from local schools and embroiled in a network of vandalism, beatings of other young people, and drug trafficking. The police have subsequently located the other under-age members of the gang which has apparently been creating considerable alarm in schools in Manacor. It is alleged on one occasion, to have singled out a victim and forced him to take drugs under threat of being assaulted should he fail to comply.

Police discovered that in order to be accepted into the gang, potential members had to successfully carry out a robbery from other pupils at the school they were attending.
