THE under pressure Mayor of Palma, Aina Calvo, said yesterday she refused to comment on whether or not Miguel Nadal, the Majorcan Unionist Party spokesperson on the city council, should also resign from the municipal body.

Nadal's determination to continue on the council, has split the Socialist-led council coalition.

The United Left have been demanding that unless Nadal goes, they will withdraw their support from the governing body which could pave the way for the opposition Partido Popular to take control of the city council.

Nadal yesterday repeated that he will only resign from the council if asked to by the Majorcan Unionist Party. Calvo admitted that the situation on the council is not particularly “comfortable” but stressed that Nadal's' future remains in the hands of the courts and his party.
