PALMA
THE ambitious Palma tram project has received a 35 million euro injection of public funds from the central government in Madrid.
Yesterday, the Spanish cabinet gave the go ahead for the Ministry for Development to sign off on a 45 million euro Balearic infrastructure investment package for 2010.

10 million is going to be spent on a series of much needed road improvement projects while the bulk of the funding, 35 million, is going to be set aside to getting the Palma tram project up and running.

The first phase of the tram is going to link the airport with the centre of Palma. Phase two will involve the airport link being extended along the Playa de Palma to Arenal and the third and final phase will see a second line being built from Palma to Calvia. Once the final viability study is completed, work will begin next year.
