HEAVY snow flurries closed the Pollensa to Andratx mountain pass yesterday morning and more snow was expected last night as the snow line fell to just 300 metres.

The Pollensa to Andratx road was closed for most of the morning while emergency teams cleared the snow and gritted the ice and drivers are advised to check road conditions this morning with black ice going to be the big danger after another freeing cold night.

The Guardia Civil will be patrolling the mountain roads, monitoring the situation and prepared to close more roads if necessary.
Today, all of the north of Majorca and Minorca is on level one, yellow alert for snow with up to 4 centimetres forecast to fall in parts of the Tramuntana mountains.

The centre of Majorca is also on level one alert for freezing temperatures which are expected to fall -2ºC tonight. The cold snap is not going to last but Christmas shoppers were forced to wrap up to beat the cold yesterday and today, with the shops open, it is going to be even chillier on the high streets.
