THE Majorcan film director Toni Bestard has been nominated for a Goya prize (Spain's Oscars), in the category of Best Short Fiction Film for his comedy Equipajes (Baggage). Sources close to the director in Bunyola said that this is the first time a film by a Majorcan director has been chosen as a candidate in the Best Short Fiction Film category of the prizes. In the past, films made from the Balearic University have competed in the Best Animation Film category. The other candidates for Best Short Fiction Film are all dramas: A ciegas (Blindly) by Salvador Gomez Cuenca, Propiedad Privada(Private Property) by Angeles Muñiz Cachón, Contracuerpo by Eduardo Chapero-Jackson; and La Guerra (The War) by Luiso Berdejo and Jorge C. Dorado, Koldo Zuazua Alvarez and Common Films SL. Equipajes was filmed in the port of Palma in April, on a budget of 18'000 euros. It has already won five prizes.
